After much talk about the book “Sex God” by Rob Bell, this was the quote I posed to my e-group online this week:
“Love is giving up control. If we are serious about loving someone, we have to surrender all of the desires within us to manipulate the relationship.
You can’t be connected to God until you are at peace with who you are. And if you cant come to terms with who you are and the life you’ve been given you cant connect with others.”
The follow-up quote I read in the book “Boundaries” which is phenomenal if you haven’t experienced it.
“It’s scary to realize the only thing holding our friends to us isn’t our performance, or our loveability, or their guilt, or their obligation. The only thing that will keep them calling, spending time with us, and putting up with us is love. And that’s the one thing we can’t control.”
Thanks to LNC for loving me and each other in the good and the bad. It’s scary not being able to control things (or maybe just for those of us with control issues–can I get an amen?). I am SO thankful to have so many connections of friends who love me here in Lex and “abroad.” Please know how much I love each of you.
